Question About Flooring Material
Hi Debra
I love watching the progress of your tiny house unfold. I’m wondering what you are going to do with the floor? Wood, bamboo, carpet? Will you be sharing the materials and brands with us as you go? I’m so excited to see the end result, but I’m loving the process too!
April
Hi April
Actually we just recently made a decision about the floor but haven’t written about it yet because it’s not to the point where we can give all the detail.
But what is coming is a wood floor made from reclaimed wine barrels!
We lived in Sonoma county, California which is part of the internationally famous Napa-Sonoma-Mendocino wine region, so used wine barrels are a local material, and the wood is extremely high-quality oak. Larry experimented with taking a barrel apart and using the staves to make flooring, so when we found it worked we bought 40 barrels that are now in various stages of being taken apart.
We haven’t decided on the floor finish yet, but stay tuned and we’ll be posting the whole process when we’re done.
Debra
Wow! That sounds absolutely perfect! What a brilliant way to recycle those wonderful barrels! I can’t think of a more meaningful way to go! Thank you for sharing! I can’t wait to see it!
I can’t wait too. 🙂
